The new principals are doing their best and are both gifted administrators, but the amount of time teachers spend 'teaching to the WASL' is distressing. Social and emotional skills are seen as secondary to academic and many kids are not equipped to handle themselves on the playground or in the classroom for that matter. When I went there, there was a good influence to join music programs in middle school. The science program was also great because the students got to go on educational and fun field trips. The teachers were very good at giving the students the special attention they needed and noticing each individual.
