Our Lady of Guadalupe School Reviews

My daughter has been a student at OLG for over 4 years, and we are very pleased. The teachers exhibit a strong commitment to students and Catholic principles. It is a small school that provides a relatively good selection of extracurricular activities, with the benefit that your child will not get 'lost' in a crowd. I've noticed they monitor progress as children advance to the next grade, with weaknesses addressed; and strength's nurtured. There is a full time school counselor on staff who is a wonderful resource as well. Parent participation is required in the form of committment hours, a norm for catholic schools. If your are new to the Seattle area - so were we and our experience was good, our daughter was welcomed by her class and teacher, and her classmates' parents welcomed us too. The Parish is small and is a nice community.

Thoroughly disappointed by this school. They simply couldn't teach my daughter who in their words was a 'smart child.' I found their attitude to be very harsh and the concept of positive reinforcement was lost on them. I have to say that some of the teachers were outstanding but most were mediocre. Parent involvement is compulsory (50 hours a year)otherwise you pay higher fees. I felt slightly taken for granted as a volunteer possibly because there are so many parents volunteering in the first place. My child was involved in after school soccer which I found to be excellent as she really enjoyed it. Overall I wouldn't recommend this school even though it gets good results in the state tests.
