“We have had a wonderful experience with ETON. Our son has been there for three years already and the teachers are completely hands on with the daily instruction. Origianlly we were concerned about the montessori aspect of him being placed with kids a lot older than he was. However, his transition has been amazing due to his teachers. He has made a lot of friends and really enjoys learning.”

“Do not send your child here unless they are perfectly well behaved at ALL TIMES. Even at 3 years old. Be aware they do not tell you that half day children will be forced to watch the full day kids eat their lunch, without being able to have a snack themselves. They do not comfort upset children at all. I personally watched them tell a mother that her 3yo had been crying for 'a long time' because she had a potty accident and that they don't respond to children crying and told her they would 'help her when she was done crying'. This sort of behavior is appalling in a 3-6 classroom. Getting into Eton for us meant they kept more than half money, effectively kicked us out and left us with no options for the coming year. Thanks, Eton!”

“My oldest daughter attended Eton for 4 years. Her last year we had a very negative experience and teacher. After reviewing all the other possible remaining teachers, we realized that the school had almost 100% turnover from 1989 when they were a 'Blue Ribbon' school. The other teachers were only marginally better than my daughter s current teacher. It is a Montessori school in name only. All must conform or suffer the consequences. It was a nightmare when the teacher became punitive. Do not confuse academic rigor with learning. These children are stressed but not necessarily healthy. Money absolutely rules and I say that even though my husband and I have been blessed. This is a well run business profit center that happens to teach children. If you want a Montessori School, go find a real one.”

“The Eton community has been fabulous for our children and family. We have been there 4 years and have two children enrolled. The academic programs are challenging and rigorous but accomodating to each child's learning style. The teaching staff is dedicated and skilled, respecting what makes each child unique and recognizing what their contribution to the classroom is. The children's individuality and self-esteem is always a top priority. The parent community is as active as each family wants it to be, depending on their level of interest and available time.”

“This is our second year at Eton School in the Pre-Elementary program. My two daughters have absolutely thrived in this stimulating Montessori environment. Their teachers are very experienced and wonderful, very nurturing while still guiding the children towards independence in their daily lives. Being in a multi-age classroom means that children can learn from each other and eventually become a leader in their third year. My oldest daughter's confidence has blossomed both in her academic endeavors and in her relationships with her peers. The teachers encourage the parents to have a constant dialog with them regarding their children, they are always available to help support parents and children any way they can. A pre-elementary Montessori classroom is very structured (which surprises many parents) and then children are given a lot of freedom and opportunities to make good choices within that structure: it's just like the real world!”

The facts of business are that it does takes money to pay professionals so that they don't have to take a vow of poverty to teach our children. “Very disapointed with this school. Their reputation was so good we thought it would be perfect. But it was our experience that they strive more for academics then with working with the 'whole child' like they say they do. Our child was only 4 when we started going there and she came out of it so highly stressed that we knew this was not the school for her.”

“We are very happy with our Eton experience the school has been so great and accomodating of our Child and thier medical needs, while maintaining the integrity of thier education and school experience... the teachers are genuine and the level at which they teach and the students can learn and accelerate is exactly what we expected.. no ceiling. Our child comes home thrilled each day with smiles and more knowledge. We carefully chose this school based on our personal experiences with interviewing schools both public and private and this school was able to deliver on its promises made by the teachers. We had heard many negative rumors, but I have to say, none of them have been substantiated in our books.”

“My daughter attended Eton. This school has an exceptional science program and her exposure to science at an early age greatly influenced her decision to pursue science as a college major. Additionally, the Latin program at Eton is just excellent; a basic understanding of Latin proved to be a tremendous asset throughout her school experience. This school truly honors and respects their students.”

“Here's the deal with Eton. You, as a parent, have to commit to this school in the same manner that your kid does. The curriculum is tough and expectations are high. My daughter had a tough time at first but now, in her 4th month here, she has really hit her stride and her self-confidence and attitude is soaring. She worked damn hard to get where she is now and now she's not afraid of hard work and is becoming genuinely passionate about the subjects she studies. The net/net with this school is this: if the parents don't provide the support the kid needs, that child will not fare well at Eton. Public school would better as expectations are much lower. I love what Eton is teaching my daughter: the value of hard work, self-confidence and passion for learning.”

“If your child does anything that the teachers don't care for, it will be considered your problem and you will be told to 'fix it'. They say they educate the whole child, but they lie. They are extremely rigid and uncaring. If your child does well with a strict environment, they will do fine at Eton, but just don't expect any emotional kindness or support from the teachers or administration. The academics are good there... the one possitive I se. They will not hesitate to tell you to find another school and kep your money for the privilege.”

“Eton School is a montessori based school. So it's important for parents to take a moment to understand the montessori philosphy and teaching before jumping into the program. Eton school builds confidence and fosters to love of learning spirit. My children are growing into confident learners who are eager to try new things and work independently - which is the goal of Montessori. The Eton teachers are compassionate and are there to foster learning. If they 'appear' to be strict it's because they're motivating children to try things themselves first. The school academics are good - the lessons learned are definitely building blocks for the future. My 7 year old child already knows basic multiplication and my 4 year old child can identify and describe parts of the human body. And at the end of the day, my kids are happy learners.”

“The most non caring administration we have ever come across. Dispite their claims to develop the whole child, that is the farthest thing from their mind. The adminsitration is not accessible or has time for a concerened parent. The school has no PTA like organization and therefore there are no parental involvement or feedback. They emphasize developing a global child but a pass through their library shows that is the last thing in their mind. Security of children is also a big concern for us as we noticed strangers could easily walk into their building without anyone checking on them.”

“A failing school. Owned by the principal, no board of governors.High pupil turnover. Poor classroom management. Classsrooms unbalanced with mostly new students. Low academic standards. Work often not marked. Not child led or teaching the whole child. Little to no communication with parents from teachers or the administration, difficulty to even get teachers to meet with you. Has a frightening 'heads on desk' policy which was used en masse on children without parental knowledge or permission. Don't like it and you'll be told you're the only people to complain and they suggst you go, same if you don't renew, then they keep your money. We just pulled our child out after a terrible almost 2 years in Lower Elementary (3 years in Pre. were fine due to luckily getting a good teacher). Lower Elementary has been a complete waste of money and our very bright child's life. Simply dreadful.”

“Eton is not for everyone. For parents who use school in lieu of actual parenting, Eton is the wrong choice. For parents who coddle their children and expect the teachers to be babysitters, Eton is the wrong choice. The teachers here are fair and caring, but they expect you to TRY, and they will help you succeed. Eton is the right choice for kids who can handle adversity. My kid has failed and picked herself back up and succeeded time and time again. Her self confidence grows with each day and her passion for learning is truly blossoming. Most people in this day and age expect to be coddled. But there are a few of us out here who still believe in the value of self-reliance and rising to challenges. For those of us, Eton is the right choice.”

“Eton is the great school for parents that want to drop their kids off at school early morning and pick them up at night not knowing what the kid was taught. If you are a caring parent and want to be involved in your kids education this is a dangerously wrong set up. We pulled our kid out like many others after one year.”

“Wow, these reviews are almost exactly opposite of one another! It's confusing to me since my son is in his first year (first grade) and is already doing fractions, multiplication, foreign language, science fairs and reading at an accelerated level. I don't blame folks who have kids who struggle at this school, it is challenging. But i know public school wouldn't teach my son the same things he's learning here. His teachers are very approachable and he's happy. I guess it's not for everyone.”

“Eton School is a great school for parents who want their children to succeed academically and socially. I have two children at Eton who have been at the school since age three and are now both in the upper elementary division. The teachers are caring and supportive and are very willing to work with a child that does not fit the normal mold taking into account that every child is unique. They also provide additional academic challenges for kids who want to push themselves beyond the average as well as offering many creative afterschool activities. I would recommend Eton to any parent who wants a school where parental interaction is not only welcomed but valued. You will find that it is well worth the cost (which is quite reasonable when compared to many of the area private schools).”

“Our daughter is in the pre-elementary program at Eton. I attribute a lot of her recent social growth to the Eton environment and the student/age mix in the classroom. We found her teachers to be very receptive in meeting and partnering with us to resolve any issues. We've found the administration to be very professionally managed, compared to our previous preschool experience - and open to parent feedback and participation at the school. For parents seeking a quality Montessori education for their child, I would recommend their pre-elementary program.”

“Privately owned by Director Felton. Tuition not commensurate with results. No Parent Teacher meetings to discuss results or concerns over poor classroom management and absentee teachers. Recommend Open Window, Chestnut Hill, St. Thomas and local private schools that can share entry and exit test scores with prospective families.”

“I am a very satisfied parent of the program at Eton. My daughter is in her third year at Eton following two years in a fantastic Montessori school in another state. Before enrolling my daughter here, I did my homework. I visited school after school. I spoke with administrators and visited classrooms. I was familiar with the Montessori philosophy and Eton has delivered nothing but the best for our daughter. She is bright, enthusiastic about school and displays a love of learning that goes on and on. Don't select this school without doing your due diligence. Understand the program. Participate in all informational opportunities for parents. Understand and take part in your child's education. Don't choose Eton without investing yourself into your child's education only to wonder what is going on. It is not traditional. It is not status quo. Your child will benefit if you support the process.”

“I have 2 children currently attending Eton and felt motivated to respond to the negative comments. The common thread among the dissatisfied parents is that they had a child with either behavioral or learning problems. From what I have seen, the teachers at Eton try very hard to accomodate all varieties of students. However, if the child's behavioral or learning problems substantially interfere with the other students' ability to learn and the teacher's ability to teach, that student will be asked to leave. As a parent, I expect the school to respond in this way, which respects the right of the majority of the class to continue their educational pursuits without undue interference or distraction. That is part of the reason that we pay to send our children to private school. If you want your child to be challenged and thrive academically, Eton is a great place.”

“I believe that the vastly different impressions of Eton are a result of the extremely variable abilities and styles of the teachers. Our two children had vastly different experiences - one positive and one negative. Unfortunately, the negative experience cost our son his confidence, and the rebuilding process (at another school) has taken some time. Eton is unquestionably focused on academic achievement, despite current educational studies and Maria Montessori's philosophy which support different emphases.”

“This is an excellent school. Academic standards are high, social consciousness is a priority, and the children are sweet and considerate of each other at all ages. After school progams are extensive and include music, sports, martial arts, chess club...Parents volunteer in the classroom and provide support through auction. Too bad it's not free.”
