Eastside Catholic High School Reviews

The school although moving to a new campus, does not have the claimed 'rigorous academics'. The only thing different about the school is the environment--clean and sterile. There is not much difference in academics in comparison to public schools in the area. For a 10k+ price tag it hardly seems worth it to invest, when you have got other great private schools in the Northwest.

Eastside Catholic has a lot of good things going for it, but the real treasure is the truly outstanding special education program that they run, called the Options Program. Eastside is fully committed to integrating the Options students (25 or so out of an enrollment of 500+) into all aspects of school life. My daughter has really blossomed in this program, and we couldn't be happier. As an example of how the school accepts and supports the Options students, last fall at homecoming they had two if these students as homecoming royalty! The community is incredibly accepting and affirming of them, which is a complete turn-around from what I saw in public schools. The new school building is great!

Great school moving to a new campus in 2008. Leadership and education experience has provided a great setting for my daughter.

In comparison to area public schools I had attended since the fifth grade, Eastside seemed a step in the right direction. However, as a student, I should have kept walking. A much-touted 'college-prep' program offers nothing in the area of college counseling, and most of the students end up attending in-state public schools. Mandatory religious classes are tedious, bordering on completely irrelevant, and much of the curriculum seems geared to people with good spelling skills and little else. The absolutely maladroit handling of any problem by the administration is, frankly, shameful. I was incredibly ill-prepared for more rigorous academics when I transferred to another school. Still, to ensure I'm not merely venting in a blaze of sour grapes, the English department, is stunning. Unfortunately, these dedicated teachers' efforts are marred by a school whose main goal is raising money and obedient Christians.

While this school has excellent motives...please remember it is not right for all students. My daughter extremely disliked the strict environment and controlled atmosphere. If you have a child that is independent and severely self-motivated, this might not be the right school for him or her.

I am parent of a Junior at ECHS. My child was a 'high achiever' in grade school and I wanted her to have a strong academic program. At Eastside she has excelled with a strong college prep curriculum and AP coursework in math, science and literature. The science program, directed by Laurie Matthews, excites students with opportunities such as cancer research programs conducted with support of Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Opportunities (and expectations) for service to community abound, including an Esperanza outreach week in Tijuana Mexico each spring. On the whole I think the leadership, academics, and overall quality are far higher than many people realize - get to know the school and make an informed opinion.

I myself am a student at Eastside Catholic, and its a wonderful school. Right now I'm a freshmen, becoming a sophmore next year. I was and still am amazed at the high quality of ECHS. It's a wonderful school, the teachers take their ow time to help youn with prjects, and will even stay at school to help you with problems. As you walk to halls, you see so many parents that you know. The parent involement is so great. The programs themselves are wonerful, and prepare students for collage. The students and staff have so much spirit that when I came to Eastside, I was stunned from how happy the students and staff were. ECHS has a great Options prgram that helps disabled kids, and also has an Academic resourses program that helps kids that have learning disabilities, such as ADD. I would never switch high schools!

This school truly cares about the students. The one drawback at this time is that they don't have their own campus - so fields are borrowed and gym use is tight, but a new school is in the works. My son went to Santa Clara and felt very prepared for the work. Science dept. is phenomenal.

Wonderful school. Very supportive atmosphere, very involved parents, great inclusive sports program. Would highly recommend this school.
