Want to take Mom for a special Seattle brunch to celebrate Mother's Day? Here are five Seattle brunch possibilities on the East Side for those who don't want to make the trek into the city.
Original Pancake House: Original Pancake House started in Portland, Oregon and locations are scattered across the country, but this one's pretty good. Located in Kirkland's Parkplace Center, it's often busy, but the wait is worth it for Dutch baby pancakes sprinkled with powdered sugar or a hearty serving of bacon. Some menu items take additional time, like the omelets, but they're more than worth it, and the waitstaff will keep the coffee flowing as you count down the minutes. (Inexpensive to moderate)
Brown Bag Café: Sadly, the Redmond location has closed and now houses an English toffee store, but the Kirkland branch is still open. The restaurant doesn't have the snap that it used to in previous years, and sometimes seems a little tired, but they will provide a hearty breakfast/brunch experience that manages to be easier on the wallet than some other options and the huge portions will ensure something to take home. (Inexpensive to moderate)
Pomegranate Bistro: On the outskirts of Redmond, Pomegranate is the creation of husband and wife chef-team Lisa Dupar and Jonathan Zimmer and features a brunch menu with items such as southern fried chicken and waffles and candied ginger-lemon oatcakes. Check the in-restaurant bakery and espresso bar if you want to grab some of the yummies to go. (Moderate to expensive)
Trellis: Downtown Kirkland holds Trellis, a restaurant attached to the Heathman Hotel. Fresh, locally-produced food, much of which is grown at Chef Brian Scheehser's nearby farm in Woodinville, is showcased beautifully and deliciously in items such as the pear and gorgonzola or caramelized onion flatbreads. The twenty percent gratuity automatically added to bills may give some customers pause. (Moderate to expensive)
Barking Frog: The priciest selection on the list, Woodinville's Barking Frog restaurant, located in Willows Lodge, provides an upscale experience that many mothers may relish, including mimosas and Chef Bobby's Dungeness Crabcake Benedict. (Expensive)
HelloSeattle Tip: Make reservations ahead of time; showing up without one may be the best way to ensure disappointment.
