It's easy to underestimate the size of downtown Redmond's Town Center the shopping center, which sprawls across the site of a former golf course. Even so, with several office buildings scattered throughout the complex as well as movie theaters and a Marriott hotel, parking is at a premium.
A few independent shops are mixed in with the more-recognizable national chain stores. Macy's serves as an anchor to the center, which also hosts a Borders, REI, Bed Bath & Beyond, and Pier One.
Two small luxury theaters are situated in the shopping center, Big Picture and Gold Class Cinema. The latter is the more expensive, while the more reasonably priced Big Picture often features interesting independent films. Sign up for its mailing list at www.thebigpicture.net to be notified of the schedule.
One distinctive feature of the shopping area is its a number of good restaurants, including Thai Ginger, Mehfil Indian Cuisine, Spazzo Italian Grill and Wine Bar, and Matts' Rotisserie & Oyster Lounge. Less-expensive options include Redmond Subs and the excellent Pasha Grill. If you want to skip the meal and go straight to dessert, Pinkbella Cupcakes is located on the upper level. Caff-fiends: two Starbucks are available, along with a Tully's.
In the summers, the center hosts a Saturday farmer's market on its northwest side. Again, parking is scarce on those days, so plan on walking a bit and bring a way to carry home produce, flowers, and other handmade goods.
