Five Seattle Touring Possibilities

Looking to do some Seattle touring? Seattle's a big place, with plenty of history to explore and sights to see. Here are five Seattle touring possibilities to get to know the Emerald City better.

On foot: Sign up for one of the many walking tours Seattle offers. Try the Underground Tour for a dose of Seattle history and comedic patter from a guide, or one of the Savor Seattle Food Tours in order to taste plenty of treats from local businesses. Or try the Seattle Ghost Tour for a walk on the spooky side.

Seattle Duck Tours: The distinctive Duck tour vehicles can be seen throughout the downtown area, with happy passengers waving as their cheerful tour guides enthuse about the area. Notable for traveling not just by land but also by water, the amphibious vehicles are a fun way to see the city.

From the water: Do it on the cheap with a ferry ride or book a cruise from Argosy Cruises or Lake Washington Cruises. Cruising through Lake Washington is the best way to see Seattle's houseboat community, as immortalized in Sleepless in Seattle. In nice weather, it's a good chance to see Seattle at its most beautiful and a wonderful way to cool off when summer heat's at its hottest.

From the air: Charter a seaplane flight, and you'll find yourself seeing the Sound area from a bird's eye vista, including the city skyline, the Ballard Locks, Safeco Stadium and Qwest Field. While a more expensive option than the others, it may be the most efficient way to see the most that you can.

The monorail: Admittedly, it's a limited ride, but it's a chance at a futuristic ride on the way to Seattle's trademark Space Needle and the iconic Experience Music Project with its adjoining Science Fiction Museum. Going the other way, it drops passengers off at Westlake Center, a good launching point for exploring downtown landmarks like Pike Place Market.

Other possibilities include renting a kayak, taking a horse carriage, or finding some other handy means of locomotion. Any way one chooses to do it, the chance to explore Seattle offers plenty of interesting possibilities.
