The Creative WorkOf Sculptor Vincent Cavanaugh
“No form of art I create has so grasped my being or brought me more joy and satisfaction than creating welded metal sculptures.”
Expression
I create abstract sculptures. Many of these abstract forms echo the basic structures of organic shapes found in nature. The movement of a piece can bend and flow, reminiscent of unusual pieces of driftwood on a far away beach. Some pieces suggest the lines of an animal, bird, or exotic plant, while others have a whimsical, if not comical flavor.
Inspiration
I gain inspiration from the interplay of light and shadow, the unexpected sight of two forms juxtaposed, a small flash of movement. These images flash freeze in my mind’s eye stimulating me to create. Even when I close my eyes I see a panorama of sculptures I have yet to create.
Motivation
To unite pieces of steel that have diverse origins, histories, and original purposes into a unique new creation is a thrill I never tire of.
