Cupcake Royale: where good coffee and rich tastes rule
In the the ralm of treats one can enjoy with a cup of coffee, the cupcake is king. Every day, Cupcake Royale receives an constant audience of loyal subjects, drawn by the cafe's excellent lattes and its parade of sweet, satisfying gourmet cupcakes.
From early in the morning to late in the evening, Cupcake Royale bakes up fresh, buttery cupcakes in a few basic flavors — chocolate, vanilla, carrot, red cocoa — then transforms them into nearly two dozen tempting varieties by applying generous amounts of creamy frosting.
Vanilla cakes are slathered with chocolate, coconut, vanilla and lemon; chocolate cakes are frosted with orange, peppermint, cream cheese and even more chocolate. They're spongy and rich, almost too rich for some to finish; Cupcake Royale offers half-size "baby cakes" for just that reason.
The cupcake selection changes daily. Look in the display case and you could find a salted caramel cupcake, or a seasonal favorite like pumpkin spice.
There are lots of reasons to pay Cupcake Royale repeat visits — its friendly, small-town vibe, its free wireless internet service — but really, the main reason to come back is to see what surprises the kitchen has baked up that day.
Most folks camp out at Cupcake Royale long after they've finished their cupcakes, and the cafe makes t hat easy to do by serving up some truly wonderful coffee drinks. The baristas labor over every latte, foaming the milk to perfection and appointing each one with a decorative, leaf-like flourish, like an artist's signature.
