Unicorn Crepes: a dessert treat you shouldn't walk by
Located in the heart of Seattle's International District, Unicorn Crepes is easy to walk by: It's a tiny shop, scarcely big enough for a dozen patrons standing shoulder-to-shoulder. But once you've tasted what they have to offer, you'll never walk past it again.
More than a simple creperie with French and Asian influences, Unicorn is home to a dessert treat as rare as the storybook creature for which the restaurant is named.
Unicorn takes a freshly made crepe (they'll make one from scratch, right before your eyes), slathers it with practically every kind of sweet taste you can imagine, then rolls it into a "horn" for easy consumption. It may sound basic, but it tastes like a millon bucks
— and it's big enough for budget-minded diners to share.
Among the three dozen dessert options is a crepe filled with blueberries and custard; one filled with bananas, almonds and chocolate sauce; one filled with strawberries, chocolate and (why not?) corn flakes; and a crepe filled with bananas, yogurt and maple syrup. Every crepe is finished with a generous dollop of whipped cream, and they're all delicious.
If you skipped lunch, Unicorn makes savory crepes as well. They're filled with spicy tuna salad, ham and egg, pizza and even a crepe rolled around a chili-cheese hot dog. Extra toppings are available for a nominal fee if you're famished, or if you're feeling brave enough to mix sweet and salty tastes.
