Biography:
"I have been enjoying a stream of conscious style of drawing my whole life. The process of letting my wandering arm initiate a picture, and even complete it, has always been my most satisfying artistic endeavor. As I grow in years, in artistic experience, and as I more deeply know myself and experience calm within, I am drawn even more to let my pictures develop with no expectations. The challenge for me in my work, is to not try. When I try, I separate myself from my arm, I become tense, and the results are uninteresting, lack flow, and lack life. When I can sit down calmly, stop trying, and let my arm wander effortlessly with an inky bamboo stick, or a butchered brush, then I begin to get excited! And I love to see what comes to the paper!”
Mike Biskup grew up in Central California, he enjoyed playing in the fig orchards, riding bikes and drawing with his two older brothers. Throughout childhood they created thousands of quirky characters, mean monsters, fast cars, funky dudes and all kinds of things, drawing, painting and making music at any possible opportunity.
After getting a BA of fine art at UC Santa Cruz, Mike married his long-time sweetheart and chose to pursue a strong interest in organic farming and gardening, using the earth as his canvas. While still dabbling in the world of fine art, exhibiting locally in Fresno, California and working for local businesses and nonprofits, his main area of focus remained organic gardening and raising his family.
However, a move to beautiful Port Townsend WA inspired him to return to the world of painting and drawing. His introduction to the Pacific Northwest art scene has been huge, with invitations to display work in local galleries, commissions, and three solo shows in one year. The artist community in particular has been overwhelmingly supportive and generous in their praise and appreciation for Mike's art.
Mike enjoys living in Port Townsend, Washington with his wife Lisa and their three beautiful children. Lisa, works with Mike to bring his work to ever-expanding audiences, as an aside to her job as the Director of Business Develop for www.maczot.com.
In addition to drawing and painting, Mike is a facilitator of The Work of Byron Katie. He also enjoys making music, gardening, and being with his family.
